Unfortunately, this is the present unprincipled, cowardly, and extremely immoral state of politics in America. To vote for Obama is COMPLETELY dismissive of third world peoples who he has authorized, endorsed and supported the murder of. Shame on those who decide to vote for a drone-strike trigger-happy, civil-liberty-smashing monster because they’d rather have their imperial party of exploitation and oppression beat the less-pleasant imperial party of exploitation and oppression in America. It seriously turns my stomach.

At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality. We must strive every day so that this love of living humanity will be transformed into actual deeds, into acts that serve as examples, as a moving force.

My friend made me read this essay just now, and it was absolutely spot on… then again, its orwell, I wouldn’t expect anything otherwise..

Basically, in his essay “Can Socialists be Happy?,” Orwell poses a question about the utopian societies we tend to create in literature: Why the fuck do they always seem so shallow, uninspired, and down right fucking boring? Are we really able to live in a better world and actually be “happy”?

As I was reading, it reminded me of that scene in The Matrix when Mr. Anderson tells Neo that they once tried to put the humans in a perfect ‘world’ with no pain, crime, and poverty… but that the “crops” kept dieing; that people weren’t designed to live that way.

Is that true? That we need to have war and poverty in order to have vitality and passion.

Is happiness even pleasure, or just relief of pain?

Is happiness the goal?

Voting as a form of resistance.

Well fucking put, Josh. <3

joshuaduane:

The irony of allegedly progressive political activists that scream “follow the money” on a regular basis but fail to notice the overflowing pockets of the Obama administration never gets old. Or better yet, the failure to recognize that both Obama and Romney are funded largely from the same interests -the interests of Goldman Sachs and big financial institutions responsible for not only the global economic meltdown four years ago (in which no one was held accountable but were offered numerous open positions within the Obama administration), but are also responsible for the economic collapse coming our way, one that the U.S. (or any country for that matter) won’t be able to escape.

If you’re really going to “follow the money”, you need to follow the flow of global capital. You need to understand that the Eurozone crisis is our crisis. 2008 exposed an extremely weak global financial system that, despite anything reported by the media or elites, has been weakening ever since and is now on the cusp of complete collapse. It then becomes increasingly clear why our two-party political system is wholly corrupted by financial elites. It is a struggle to retain power during the decline of the American empire through the collapse of the global capitalist system.

Your role as a citizen, not only of this country but of this world, in order to oppose and actively work against austerity, poverty, injustice, and tyrannical power, then becomes to actively work outside of and against this political structure. Stop focusing so much energy and time on this coming election. All that matters is that you go into the voting booth, vote for a third party to show your dissent, and then get back into the streets. Voting in this election is not about “winning” or giving a submissive vote to a party that has “real chances” or “clout.” Voting is a tactic. It can be a form of a resistance. It can be used to give yourself a voice in a political structure designed to silence you and submit you to the status quo of the global financial elites.
